Jessica drove us to the wedding since Matt and Eric were already too buzzed to drive. We had to arrive early as Eric was a groomsman so Jessica, Matt, and I saddled up to the bar at the country club to pass the time.The last thing Matt needed was more alcohol though. He was already tipsy and it was still an hour until the ceremony, let alone the reception. His drunkenness was annoying me, as usual, and I slipped outside to get some fresh air and watch golfers play the hole nearest to the clubhouse.Jessica came out to join me shortly after.“Do I need to go in and get him?” I asked Jessica.“No. He’s chatting with some members he knows. I think he’s fine…for now.”“For now,” I said as we both laughed.“So are you and Matt back together?”“I don’t know. Maybe?” I answered with a quizzical look.To be honest I didn’t know. He was a comfort zone for me. He certainly cared for me. God.” I laughed. “How weird was that?”“Not weird. It was a long time ago,” he laughed back.We discussed various things while chain-smoking cigarettes and drinking wine out on the balcony. Greg was a private school kid who played lacrosse and had gone to college up in New York before returning home to work for his father’s investment firm. He was slightly over six feet tall and had chiseled cheekbones and wafty brown hair. He made good eye contact and his green eyes were tough to look away from.
